I-75 / I-595 SAWGRASS INTERCHANGE, RAMPS B, E & J
Broward County, Florida
General Description: The I-75/I-595 Sawgrass Interchange is composed of nine precast segmental concrete bridges built between 1986 and 1989. The bridges all have bonded internal tendons and were erected in balanced cantilever with epoxy joints. As part of the FDOT’s program to enhance the protection of post-tensioning systems, a plan was developed to enhance the post-tensioning system protection by providing a watertight deck and protecting critical tendons. Ramp B is a 3,939′ long precast segmental concrete box girder bridge that is 42′-9″ wide. Ramps E and J have a total length of 5,945′ and each precast segmental concrete box girder is 42′-9″ wide. Segments were erected in balanced cantilever by ground-based cranes.
Corven Engineering Role: Construction Engineering Inspection. Inspection and administration for the post-tensioning remediation work that included application of an epoxy overlay and grouting and sealing of critical continuity tendons. Corven Engineering created the Final Design of the precast segmental superstructure.
